I went to a studio that is really close to my school that I went with my class. When I arrived to the studio, it was really interesting to see two photographer active. All their photographs were hung up on the wall and the pictures they took are absolutely beautiful. It inspired me to take different angles of images and try new things that are different than what I am used to seeing.
The reason why we went to the studio is because, Jim wanted to give us an idea of how much it takes to start your own business. When he was talking about it, it got me a little intimated. I was intimated because, all the numbers he was throwing at us, was overwhelming to me. He talked about taking a photoshoot was a lot more than what I thought. There is so much thought and money to go into it, and I knew that but actual amount and how things you need. got me all twisted. Don't get wrong, I would love to have my own business but I don't think I'm going to do it. My goal as taking this photography program is to understand on how the camera actually really works and photoshop because I want to become an assistant to someone. And I know its weird, saying that I want to become an assistant rather than my own business but I don't mind helping people and being told what to do. I would rather have that, than having to tell people what to do and be the boss (it would be pretty cool though).
Listening to Jim talk about how much time and effort he has to put in for just one photoshoot seems so overwhelming and a lot of stress to do deal with. I understand that once you get the hang of it, it starts to become a bit easier but every client is different and how they want the photoshoot done. Another discussion Jim talked about was the amount money and how much it goes into it. Everyone thinks that you just have a camera and the model and boom the photoshoot is done. In reality, there is so much more that has to be done. If Jim had to do a shoot for a magazine then he needs to get model release forms. Model release forms allows the photographer to use them for the day and if anything happens to them like an injury, then they are responsible for it. They also need different types of lights and different camera but sometimes the photographer doesn't have all the equipment so they have to rent and the amount of time they need it, might cost more money. There is so much aspects that go into a photoshoot and how I would love to be an assistant. Being able help set everything up and make sure things are in the right place, is a lot better than dealing with all the other things.
