Portraits isn't my favorite type of photography because I don't know how to properly shoot at the right angle to capture the photo the way I want it to. But this picture, was an accident and Im happy I took it. I was in the park with my cousin and I had to just take a random picture to make sure the ISO was on the right setting. She was walking in front of me and I asked her to turn around and smile and this the photo that came out. The way she is blacklit and its just a picture of her, I love. I love that its in sharp focus and everything in the background is blurred. The only thing I would critique about my photo is on top of her head. Her head is too bright and I would go into photoshop and just burn it a little bit. I would turn the opacity and flow percentage down. I would also like to clone out the sign that is on the tree in the background. Other than some other small things, this is my favorite portrait picture I took so far.

Reaction Paper-Nadia Sablin

When Nadia Sablin came into my class to explain her work to me and my classmates, I wasn't really looking forward to hearing someone talk about their experience in photography and how they shoot their photographs. Everyone has their own style of photography and I didn't think her style would interest me. Right in the beginning, as Nadia started talked talking she caught my interest and I was completely wrong about her. The way she talked about how her style of photography and venturing out into Russia and certain places where she couldn't be allowed to photograph really got me thinking. Im adopted and I always wondered what my life could have been like and how much different life could be. As she was talking, I was thinking that I could possibly go to the country I was born in and take photographs of how people live. Everyone knows that poverty exists but not to the extent. I would want to go out and venture off into towns that not everyone sees. The towns that are dangerous and show the real concept of poverty. As Nadia was talking and explaining how she was born in Russia and then moved and took pictures on her journey was very interesting. It was also intriguing that she made connections with people she photographed and saw little kids that were 5 years old, that are now 12 years old and following them as they grow up. I think thats really cool, that she was able to overcome the idea of approaching people and asking to take their photo because thats something I'm afraid of doing. Im scared of the idea that someone is going to say no and give me a hard time but thats the only thing they can do. The only thing a person could say is "oh no, I'm sorry i don't want my picture taken". It doesn't seem scary but theres a wall thats blocking me that I need to overcome and I understood where Nadia was coming from when she was talking about that. She was explaining this when she lived in Arizona and wanted to take peoples photograph. The worst a person could say is no and then all you gotta do is move on. Just because one person said no, doesn't mean that everyone is like that. If you keep trying and asking people, eventually someone is going to be happy you asked and doesn't want you to stop taking picture of them. So many people are different with their picture being taken that you just have to be polite and sweet. Of course, you don't want to go up to a person and ask them rudely to take their picture. Go up with a smile and possibly make a joke, make them laugh and then see if you could take a picture of them. Nadia seems like a very sweet person and someone I would love to travel with and just explore parts of the world that no one sees just like when she could have had the opportunity to photograph an aurora. That would have been an awesome picture to show but I know down the road, she will have the chance to see that capture a photograph. I do wish the best of luck to her and I'm happy that I got the chance to meet her and see the type of photography she has.

Reaction Paper-Jim Lennon

I went to a studio that is really close to my school that I went with my class. When I arrived to the studio, it was really interesting to see two photographer active. All their photographs were hung up on the wall and the pictures they took are absolutely beautiful. It inspired me to take different angles of images and try new things that are different than what I am used to seeing.
The reason why we went to the studio is because, Jim wanted to give us an idea of how much it takes to start your own business. When he was talking about it, it got me a little intimated. I was intimated because, all the numbers he was throwing at us, was overwhelming to me. He talked about taking a photoshoot was a lot more than what I thought. There is so much thought and money to go into it, and I knew that but actual amount and how things you need. got me all twisted. Don't get wrong, I would love to have my own business but I don't think I'm going to do it. My goal as taking this photography program is to understand on how the camera actually really works and photoshop because I want to become an assistant to someone. And I know its weird, saying that I want to become an assistant rather than my own business but I don't mind helping people and being told what to do. I would rather have that, than having to tell people what to do and be the boss (it would be pretty cool though).

Listening to Jim talk about how much time and effort he has to put in for just one photoshoot seems so overwhelming and a lot of stress to do deal with. I understand that once you get the hang of it, it starts to become a bit easier but every client is different and how they want the photoshoot done. Another discussion Jim talked about was the amount money and how much it goes into it. Everyone thinks that you just have a camera and the model and boom the photoshoot is done. In reality, there is so much more that has to be done. If Jim had to do a shoot for a magazine then he needs to get model release forms. Model release forms allows the photographer to use them for the day and if anything happens to them like an injury, then they are responsible for it. They also need different types of lights and different camera but sometimes the photographer doesn't have all the equipment so they have to rent and the amount of time they need it, might cost more money. There is so much aspects that go into a photoshoot and how I would love to be an assistant. Being able help set everything up and make sure things are in the right place, is a lot better than dealing with all the other things.

I guess ill start off as a assistant to someone and then just take it from there because you never know what will happen and who I will meet.

Hey guys! I haven't blogged in awhile but I've been out shooting for class and for fun. My grandparents went to the city to the art museum and the artist there was fantastic, they said. Im trying to go sometime during the week because the type of pictures he takes is what I am interested in. He takes pictures of nature and the way people live in other parts of the world. I think that is so interesting and something that I want to do when I get older because its necessary for people to understand that we are sooo fortunate of what we have. The artist that is there now is named
SebastiĆ£o Salgado: Genesis. Im also thinking about researching him and finding out more what he does because I need to do a research project on a photographer who I like and want to find more about. Im excited to start and look more into it! http://www.icp.org/museum/exhibitions/sebastiao-salgado-genesis

Photography has always been a hobby of mine and dreamt of making a career out of it. Im not really sure what my 'style' is yet but I know that I love shooting nature and landscape. I also love shooting up close and making object not looks like they normally do to people. With this picture, our project was light and shadow. Using natural light is something I always use when I have an assignment for school. I don't really like using indoor lighting because the color and the effect aren't the same. Being outdoors you can see the whole environment and where the picture is being taken.
